Receiver 03:21
I'm a taker receiver I always get what I take You only take what they leave you You get nothing if you keep that rate I'm a sayer repeater I'll suck the time from your eyes While you follow the leader I'll take your soul and your merchandise Thanks to you I haven't been the same since You made me want to die Die on the crutches of time I'm a lover believer Cupid shoots at a glance He’s not trying to kill you He just wants to see you dance With arrows falling around you Until one gets in your skin Yo’re not sure what’s found you You’ll never know what kind of trouble you’re in Oh my love I haven't been the same Since you made me want to fall Fall from the crutches of time It's a trusted opinion The popular advice It must be one in a million I’d be surprised if it happens twice Oh my love I haven't been the same Since you made me want to fall Fall from the crutches of time Oh my love you haven't been the same Since you made me want to fall Fall from the crutches of time Fall from the crutches of time Fall from the crutches of time Fall from the crutches of time

I told you when I met you I was very hard to please But I didn’t want it to get in the way You told me where to look to to find a place of peace Somewhere that maybe I could stay I need a place to stay I was disconnected I was floundering I could only see the clock up on the wall The ticking and the tocking and the trial by fire Couldn't get myself unstuck at all I needed a place to fall All my life I wanted more Now I know I have it all You can't trust your body cause it always lies The body is ruled by martial law You can't trust your mind because it just asks why Something about a fatal flaw Answering the call, I was answering the call All my life I wanted more Now I know I have it all Now I know I have it all

Love will get you high But you have to burn it up Keep it deep inside you Then let it blow away Love will get you high But you have to burn it up Keep it deep inside you Then let it blow away Keep your lamplight low Soon to know Soon to know Keep your lamplight low Soon to know Soon to know I left without a sound Without an echo in the hallway Not even just a footstep Or brush against the wall But it echoed in the night You could hear it far and wide The soft probably The adult Lullaby Keep your lamplight low Soon to know Soon to know Keep your lamplight low Soon to know Soon to know The end of something good Is the start of something better So breathe like you should And let it blow away Keep your lamplight low Soon to know Soon to know

We Walk By 03:05
We walk by We walk through We make a splash with everything that we do We can pout we can flaunt We’re used to getting everything that we want But you can't be trapped in the magic forever There's got to be a moment when you feel untrue We set up We tear down We caravan from town to town We’ve got the passion got the love We’ve got the footage for the making of You can't be trapped in the moment forever There’s got to way to make the picture stay What can you do When all you really want is to be true? Out of step out of place I’d be lost without your beacon face There’s no trade publication For what we really want to do For what we really want to do now (Looking at the world turned upside down) We walk by We walk through We make a splash with everything that we do We can pout we can flaunt We’re used to getting everything that we want But you can't be trapped in the moment forever There's got to be a moment when you feel untrue

There is no truth That cannot sing So think up something And let it ring Contentment is simple So is good cheer Look death in the eye And whisper in its ear Put some air into the sound Put some sound into the air Clackity clack Only indecision Can make a man regret What he hasn't even done He can't forget You were spinning like top Then caught in the gears An all-new season Of sitcom tears Put some air into the sound Put some sound into the air Clackity clack If he’d only got it right Could have been a great man Pictured kissing world leaders And shaking babies' hands But standing in a snowbank Looking at the moon Listen closely is he howling Or just whistling a tune? Put some air into the sound Put some sound into the air Clackity clack

The Devil 05:28
The devil had my love The devil had my love All my life the devil had my love The devil had my love The devil had my love All my life the devil had my love Apple in the tree, the foam in the sea All my life the devil had my love Platonic and tough, devotional and free All my life the devil had my love Oh the flower the delicate flower brings the bees that sting The delicate flower the anticipation hour awaiting everything Add a few more zeroes before you sign the check Before I could even begin to forgive your debt I'm kidding of course only making fun No amount of zeroes that could make up for what you've done Oh the flower the delicate flower brings the bees that sting The delicate flower the anticipation hour awaiting everything Stranded on the tarmac no contact with the tower All my life the devil had my love Motionless machine static on the ground All my life the devil had my love

They called you gold digger They called you other things They hid your name It didn’t take you by surprise did it? I told them to be kinder but they didn't I called you a seeker I told them they were wrong I told them to behave They were looking at the old you They’d been looking at the same thing too long We paid our dues We gave it Hell We earned it with our sweat and blood We thrummed the heartstrings Until there were blisters on our thumbs But we’re alright We’ve got the windows open And though it’s cold outside We’ve got the stereo pumping Blaring out at the cemetery trees They say it’s a wasteland That it’s nobody’s home Sick of living on a sofa bed There’s a frozen yogurt stand Where our ex-landlord got stabbed But I can trust in you You can trust in me I can tell you what I want to hear You can show me what you want to see You can show me what you want to see But we’re alright We’ve got the windows open We feel no pain We’ve got the stereo pumping Blaring out at the cemetery trees

Do you remember when I said All your memories are in your head? Ooh such a cultivated turn of phrase But you said poetry never pays Thoughts are crude The mouth is a refinery Powered by the mind And talk is a landscape Ravaged and dug up by the need to speak Mother tongue Mother tongue She always eats her young You were depressed The death of the party unimpressed You opened up your eyes to speak And broken glass came down your cheek because Mother tongue Mother tongue She always eats her young Mother tongue Mother tongue She always eats her young

Glacier Love 04:29
Sweet licks be the major chord beneath my wings When the beat skips we move on to better things But I won't be the rhythm that pull you along The call of the low life I'm told is very strong We worked days and now we’re working nights When the clock ticks we move on to bigger things But I won't be punctuation in a life untold The call of the low life I'm told It’s very strong In the salt air the rush of the white cap waves It swallows you up and leaves an empty space But I won’t be the mouth of the river this time The pressure to make up your mind is very strong Is very strong I told you the same thing everyone else did but you knew Everything I have you know I send it out to you As cold as I am you know I’m melting up above Glacier love

There’s a part of me that covers too much And a part of you that gets kicked up like dust The moon’s gone down on lovers before And it always slips into tomorrow The songbird that suddenly talks And the fish on the land that’s starting to walk Then some fool throws him back in the pond And so he slips into tomorrow So many nights Almost ready Almost alive Pummeling rains on a hot summer night The flask is dry but we’re feeling alright The closest store is all the way in town And so we slip into tomorrow The mouthpiece with the disarming smile The common thread the miracle mile The song bird sings and we listen a while And we slip into tomorrow So many nights Almost ready Almost alive

Blue Light 03:03
In the blue light I know I can take it as slow As I want to We’re all lazy it’s true Can’t be trusted to do What we don't want to In the blue light I know I can take it as slow As I want to We’re all visionary Can’t be trusted to see What we don't want to In the blue light I know I can take it as slow As I want to

Monrovia 03:13
We started out enlightened We ended in the dark We suffered for our art along the way Tan lines on our elbows and dust our eyes We made it to the border before day’s end Leaning to west our shadow was our wake As the sun scraped down the windshield off the sky Monrovia You’re drinking up the sun I’ve never seen your skyline but I know A wrong turn could help us to unlearn In an instant you know the beauty and the curse We saw it in the distance And we opened up our eyes And we killed it as we took it in our gaze The fear of dying and the threat of being alive In an instant they are both just the same Monrovia You’re drinking up the sun I’ve never seen you skyline but I know A long road could help us to unload In an instant you know the beauty and the curse We started out enlightened and ended in the dark We suffered for our art along the way

about

Feuerstack’s newest offering, The Forgettable Truth (February 2015), is another collaborative affair.

While Michael is back to singing, he has assembled a crack crew of familiar accompanists to help flesh out the arrangements: Pietro Amato (Bell Orchestre, Luyas) on keys, Peter Xirogiannis on bass, and Mike Belyea (Jenn Grant) on drums. While you may certainly recognize these contributors from Michael’s earlier records, the combination is new and the results are strikingly unexpected at times. Recorded at Hotel2Tango and at Michael’s home, the album also features vocals by Little Scream and Nick Cobham (Olympic Symphonium), as well as strings by Sebastian Chow.

The Forgettable Truth is a journey – posing answerless questions, shining light into dark corners, and binding classic songwriting to adventurous musicality.

“a heaving and gorgeous piece of music, anguishing and contemplative” – STEREOGUM

“une offrande sans failles.” – BRBR TFO

“simultaneously heartfelt and apathetic, sacred and profane…Feuerstack’s words recall a man who either cares too much or too little.” – CBC MUSIC

“one the best songwriters you’ll ever have a chance to hear.” – GRID CITY

“a masterclass in restraint” – QUICK BEFORE IT MELTS
